Abstract

The article discusses the Japanese writer Dazai Osamu's literary works depicting clothing and national dress during Pacific War in Japan from 1937 through 1942, including the relationship between fashion and gender. Literary works by Osamu under discussion include the short stories "The Chic Child" and "The Lamp," and the essay "On Clothing."
