Abstract

This article deals with the place of women in the socio-political project implemented in France by the Vichy government during the period of Nazi occupation, between 1940 and 1944. It also deals with the elaboration of the model of femininity in force in this process and its social function. Thus, from the study of historical sources, consisting of literary, journalistic and legal documents, as well as with the support of the related scientific bibliography, the process of re-assignment of women to the domestic sphere and to the reproductive function, on the material level, and as guarantors of morality and social order, on the symbolic level, is revealed. All this through concrete legislative measures and the recovery, at the level of representations, of traditional political, cultural, social and religious elements.
