Abstract

War is usually assessed in terms of fatalities, most of them men, but there are also a large number of women who are violated in multiple ways and perhaps one of the most negative is displacement; displacement as a result of the murder of their husbands, parents or brothers at the hands of organized crime organizations. This article seeks to make visible the violence that has been exercised against women when they were forcibly displaced during the period 2006-2012 within the framework of the so-called “war on drugs” in Mexico. Through in-depth interviews, the authors collect their stories and link the micro level with the transformations that occur at the macro level to highlight the deterioration that women have experienced in their daily lives, due to the hardening of anti-drug policy and the subsequent reconfiguration of criminal organizations.
