Yunost Petra

The film is a story about the youth of Peter the Great (1672-1725), about the formation of his character and about his immediate environment. The czar decisively renounces a number of patriarchal values and seeks to bring the country, which he loves and to which he is devoted with all youthful fervor, among the most enlightened. This is the first part of a two-part film, which was based on the novel Peter I by Aleksey Tolstoy. The second part is V nachale slavnykh del (At the Beginning of Glorious Days). The two films are considered to be classics of Russian historical cinema.
