Abstract | This volume tells the story of the British Air Transport Auxiliary (ATA), a civilian organization which, during the Second World War, took over the task of ferrying RN and RAF aircraft from the factories to the airfields, thus releasing Service pilots for more active duties. The ATA employed men and a minority of women as pilots and flight engineers on an equal basis. The author describes her experiences of being a woman pilot in the ATA, including descriptions of where the women were based and the types of aircraft they flew. |
