Abstract

The article discusses forbidden romantic relationships between French prisoners of war (POWs) and German women during World War II in Germany. Topics consider the status of the 1.5 million French soldiers held in Germany after the armistice of 1940 between Germany and France, the manpower needed for wartime industrial production in Germany, Nazi trials against both French POWs and German women accused of having relationships, treason against the German race committed by such romantically inclined women, and gender roles and social expectations for German women.
