Abstract

The article examines the crucial role of Prague Jew social worker, Marie Schmolka (1893–1940) in the Kindertransports, the scheme organized by British stockbroker Nicholas Winton (1909–2015) to rescue Jewish children from Central Europe in the days leading up to the Second World War. Topics discussed include family background of Schmolka, social work of Schmolka upon joining the Czechoslovak Women's International Zionist Organization (WIZO), and female colleagues of Schmolka who played key roles in refugee help.
