Abstract | Focusing on political campaigns, including women's suffrage and nationalist activism and pacifism, this article explains why Irish women were well-equipped to respond to the demands of Word War I. The article notes that existing political commitments and the condition of Irish political life in 1914 prepared women for the war. The connection between how the war complicated relationships between female activists, yet helped strengthened feminist activism is also explored. [WorldCat] |
