This book offers the reader the history of the Armed Forces and their relations with society during the first forty years of democratic Spain (1975-2015), in which special attention is paid to security policy and defense developed by successive democratic governments. The book is divided into three major blocks: the first, which addresses the process of democratization of the Armed Forces; the second, the professionalization of the Armies as of 1996; and the third, which analyzes the effects of the systemic crisis that began in 2008 on the military profession.
