Abstract

Barbara Drinck and Chung-Noh Gross have asked women and men who actively work as human rights activists for victims of forced prostitution to provide them with accounts of their work and experiences. In their texts, they report on situations in which women have experienced violence and suffering because they have come into contact with a thoroughly organised system of forced prostitution. The book has two thematic focuses: The first part deals with the European, African and German situation of gender-specific human rights violations against women, as it has become known through trafficking in women and girl soldiers, among others. The second part describes the current political handling of the consequences of the atrocities committed against hundreds of thousands of Asian women during the Second World War. As sex slaves in the Japanese military brothels, they experienced endless suffering, but to this day they are trivially referred to as "comfort women".
