Abstract | This volume is supposedly the autobiographical account of Lucy Brewer, who claims to have disguised herself as a man to board the U.S.S. Constitution, join the Marine Corps, and serve in the War of 1812. First published as a series of pamphlets in 1815, this work has been subject to controversy over its authorship; it was probably written by Nathaniel Hill Wright, a "hack writer" in the employ of publisher Nathaniel Coverly. |
