During World War 1, Thuliez aided and hid allied soldiers in Belgium in order to help them escape to safety. Thuliez was discovered by the Germans and condemned to death, though her sentence was commuted to life imprisonment and hard labor. Thuliez spent three years in prison in Germany before being released with much international pressure.
