Abstract

In this volume, the author traces the politics and diplomacy of the Crimean War from its various points of origin to its denouement at the Congress of Paris in 1856. The author argues that, contrary to what others have argued, the Crimean War was not an accident; rather, it was the direct consequence of actions taken by statesmen who wanted a war on behalf of the fulfillment of one objective: the containment of Russia. The volume aims to provide a clear and concise analytical account of the main lines of the diplomacy of the war.
