Abstract

Voices of Silence examines narratives of mass rape victims of World War II perpetrated by overrunning Soviet forces in 1945 in Vienna and Budapest. The article focuses on oral history to break the public silence about rape as a tool of war waged by men against women. It provides female memory as a way of creating a public record on this aspect of the war.
