In this classic film loosely based on real events, prisoners of war in Nazi-occupied Poland plan their escape. In 1943,  British and other Allied soldiers at the Stalag Luft III work collaboratively on digging tunnels under the camp, with each one offering their special talents. Although their escape is brief, symbolized with the iconic image of Steve McQueen's motorcylce ride, the film suggests that cooperation eventually wins wars.
