In this brilliant dark comedy, an acting troupe becomes entangled in espionage and the Polish resistance during World War II. After their production of Gestapo, a play critical of Hitler and Nazism, is shut down, the actors play a game of cat-and-mouse, don various disguises, and play war games in the streets of Warsaw. Maria, lead actress married to the lead actor, becomes a central player when a Resistance spy and a pilot for the Royal Armed Forces vie for her affections.
