Abstract

This tense drama weaves together three narratives critical to the successful evacuation of Dunkirk in the early days of World War II. After the German military controlled the sea, land, and air off of northern France, over 300,000 British await ships to carry them home. A small band of soldiers board numerous ships soon destroyed by the Luftwaffe, Royal Air Force pilots try to protect evacuation measures, and ordinary citizens cross the English Channel in small boats to carry their boys home.
