Abstract

As an example of Hollywood's anti-communism in the early Cold War, this film combines the classic tropes of the defector and the damsel-in-distress to warn about the dangers of the Soviet Union. Shortly after the end of World War II, British agents in Vienna must help repatriate displaced Soviet citizens. One falls in love with a ballerina, who seeks asylum in a convent.
