Abstract

This chilling Cold War film reveals the dangers of nuclear warfare, militarism, and technology. After Strategic Command detects an unidentified intrusion into U.S. airspace, bombers armed with nuclear weapons are ordered to their fail-safe points to await further instruction. A computer accidently sends a go code, and SAC fails to reach the bombers due to radio jamming by the Soviets. The U.S. President offers a sacrifice to the Soviets to prevent all-out nuclear war: the destruction of New York City.
