Abstract | Loosely based on real-life events and filmed in a documentary style, Elephant tackles the social problems of Northern Ireland during the 1980s. A series of murders erupt in Belfast, though director Alan Clarke is disinterested in depicting the killers' motives or the victims lives. Instead, Clarke uses the murders to prompt outrage among the film's viewers, who were largely apathetic to the Troubles and problems they caused. |
